Safety

Safety has become a priority in South Africa which is evident in stricter safety laws being implemented. Unfortunately, there are still many companies operating illegally either due to ignorance of the applicable safety laws or due to trying to cut costs.

Vertex Scaffolding has worked closely together with IWH to ensure that we are up to date with all the latest laws relevant to working at height.

We offer the service of doing a site inspection and risk assessment beforehand to determine what is required on your site and then quote accordingly. This is done at no obligation to you, the customer.

We have the following in place:

  1. SHE Plan
  2. Mandatory Agreement
  3. Letter of Good Standing
  4. Site Specific Induction for Vertex employees
  5. Legal Appointments
  6. Risk Assessments
  7. Method Statements
  8. Safe Working Procedures
  9. Fall Protection Plan
  10. Medical Certificates
  11. Site Documentations
  12. Incident Investigations
  13. Safety Harness inspections done on site
  14. Safety Committee Meetings

Each site is unique and the type of access equipment needed may differ. Many sites have additional safety requirements to the basic safety regulations set out in the relevant National Standards and OHS Act. Vertex Scaffolding will always comply with each individual site’s requirements, always ensuring that no less than the minimum requirements to comply with the National Standards are being adhered to at all times.

All stock that is erected by our riggers, is checked for damages. The sites are assessed for risks such as wind factor, uneven surfaces, possible danger to the public, etc. Risks are always communicated to the Main Contractor on site or to the customer directly, which ever is applicable and contingency plans are put into place. The access equipment will only be signed off with a Hand Over Certificate once the scaffolding has been checked and is safe for use. A Safe for Use signboard will then be attached to the access equipment with the date of the inspection and the maximum load allowed.
